philosophy
We believe that children learn best in creative, thoughtful, intentional, and safe environments. Our dedicated teaching staff provides a developmentally appropriate learning environment designed to stimulate and encourage each child's individual growth. Our hands-on, play-based school incorporates art, science, music, faith, movement, nature, social and emotional, and academic skills into each school day. Yes, we know this is a lot- but we believe early childhood education is more than facts and memorization. Our play-based philosophy focus on experimentation and discovery as well as academic milestones. We offer interactive, hands-on learning experiences that teach to the whole child. We believe all children have unique personalities, diverse learning styles, differing family backgrounds, and individual milestones. Children deserve classroom opportunities to experiment, play, investigate, discover, create, build new ideas, imagine and problem solve. We can offer this type of education by keeping our teacher-to-student ratio low, allowing children to thrive. We believe the small classroom sizes are essential to Early Childhood Education.
Heritage Learning Center has been an outreach ministry of Heritage Baptist Church for over 35 years. We take pride in long our rich history of high-quality early childhood education in Annapolis, Maryland.
Heritage Learning Center is governed by Learning Center Committee.

Program
Our Tremendous Twos
We understand that HLC’S two year old program is likely to be your child's first introduction to school. We try to make this first experience a positive one by providing as much love, care and security as we possibly can. This nurturing environment is designed to encourage the child’s natural curiosity of learning. The teachers will expose students to a variety of activities which engage children and stimulate growth. Children enrolling in the 2’s program must be two by September 1st. If space is available, rolling admission is accepted once your child has turned 2.

Our Thriving Threes
In HLC’s three year old program an emphasis is placed on the child’s natural love of learning and successful socialization. Both are fostered through play and with the help of knowledgeable teachers who integrate the children into the group. All of our subject matter is taught through weekly or monthly age appropriate themes. Skill development is infused throughout our 3 year old curriculum and are assessed on a monthly basis.

Our Fantastic Fours
HLC’s 4 year old program is designed to provide students with the confidence and skills they need to sore and be ready for kindergarten. Children are encouraged to continue to enjoy the play and creativity of preschool, while learning more about transitions from free play activities to structured activities. In addition to weekly learning themes, our 4’s will work on upper and lowercase letter recognition, develop a curiosity for reading and writing, count rationally, copy patterns, sort and classify, create and explore and much, much more.

Why we think this is essential to Early Childhood Education
Guiding Philosophy
Creativity
Music, art, poetry, drama and dance will stimulate their artistic skills by working with their natural abilities to see, hear, taste, touch and smell. As these skills develop, the children will expand their creativity and grow in appreciation of the arts.
Social Skills
Social experience in sharing toys and people will help the children find constructive ways of dealing with their anger, joy, frustration, happiness, disappointment and wonder. Such experiences will help them to face positively separation from their parents. These experiences will also support their relationships among other people in different environments.
Movement
Physical experience both indoors and out is planned to develop small and large motor coordination skills. Daily involvement in a variety of physical activities will release the children’s natural tensions, develop their muscles, and give them a sense of accomplishment in the mastering of body skills.
SCIENCE
Science experiences develop the children’s sense of spatial and numerical relationships, involve them in the wonder of natural growth and increase their interest in the physical world around them. It will give them an elementary sense of cause and effect and develop their own ability to influence and affect the world around them.
Play
Children learn best through play
Faith
Skills?
Language experiences will develop the children’s use of the English language, increase their vocabulary, and ultimately give them a delight in the use of words.
